Badtux the Snarky Penguin

In a time of chimpanzees, I was a penguin.

Cat Power - Cross Bones Style

I seem to be wandering across enigmatic female singer-songwriters lately... this one sort of courtesy of 42, via a very strange set of Google searches...

Yeah, I already got the news that she wasn't exactly the catcher to your pitcher, if you get my drift, from your disappointment that Chan was a gal rather than a guy :).

Just for the political content: Apparently she wrote this song after a visit near Pat Robertson's diamond mines in the Congo, after talking to orphaned children whose parents had been murdered in front of their eyes for protesting conditions in those mines. Yeah, that Pat Robertson. He's a real Christian isn't he? I mean, doesn't the Gospel of Pat say "Thou shalt kill the parents of the children, for they are unseemly"?!

But it's a cool song even if you don't know that background info. Enigmatic as hell, though.

And yeah, she does her concerts barefoot.
