A woman who is not a feminist is like a Negro who likes slavery.
C'mon. If you're a woman, why would you not want equal rights and equal opportunities? Why would you want to have fewer rights and fewer opportunities? That'd be like a black man who thinks that Abraham Lincoln did the black race a grave disservice by abolishing slavery. I mean, it's the same basic mentality... "oh, I don't want to be free, I want to be taken care of by a massah!". Sheesh.
Note to freakin' *MORONS* out there: Wanting equal rights for yourself doesn't mean ya gotta quit shaving your legs and armpits, quit showering and douching, start eating lots of granola, and gay marry each other. C'mon, who the hell wants to be a freakin' slave?
Other than 51% of the population of the United States of America, that is?
Oh well. If they wanna be slaves, no skin off my beak, since I'm not a member of the female sex nor a Republican. But you must admit that it's puzzling...

What up with the rant, BT? I don't even see a link to tell me what made you go off.
Or did the Phyllis Schlafly fairy visit your house?

These groups puzzle me as well. It can only be described as brainwashing.

The women I know who do not like the feminist movement primarily disagree with the anti-sex viewpoint. Some feminists have given the whole movement a bad name, equating ALL sex with rape etc.
In the BDSM community you find very little overt feminism, even among the female Dominants. Why? Because many feminists perceive that the Domme has simply co-opted man's patriarchal aggressive sexual tendencies, IOW no better than the "enemy".
And among the submissives they are criticized because the personal choice is typically seen as degrading to the whole of womanhood (i.e. feminists objectify other women even as they decry the objectification).
I know not all feminists are anti-sex, but in recent history it has been unfortunately true of some of the most vocal ones, esp Andrea Dworkin.

Yeah, what brought that on? I'll check back after I do the laundry and the vacuuming.

Feminist MOVEMENT? Is that like a bowel movement? The feminist movement as currently comprised has to do with feminism about as much as a bowel movement has to do with moving. It's an excuse to over-intellectualize what is,
as its base, a very simple thing -- the pursuit of equal rights and opportunity for all people, regardless of sex, race, or beak. There's a place for the intellectuals and researchers, who will, for example, be the ones who can show whether or not we've reached the goal via their research. But their ability to over-intellectualize simple concepts into vast theoretical pyramids divorced from reality is not helpful.
As for what set me off, well, I'd rather not say. Let's just say it was an encounter with a stupid girl and leave it at that. Maybe more after I go do the laundry and the vacuuming.

And then there are the religious nuts, who don't WANT equal rights, because they believe the Bible grants men authority over women. They WANT a big strong man to take care of them, and in exchange they will bear his children and wait on him. Yecccch.

Not only am I doing laundry and vacuuming today, I'm baking Christmas cookies! But it's all because I want to, so I consider that embracing my rights. (My husband usually does the laundry and cleaning because he is tons better at it than I am. But I'm off this week so with Christmas coming on a little domesticity seems well placed.)
Meanwhile, I personally don't often feel like I have my rights trampled on. But this is probably because I feel entitled to them and put my foot down when someone tries to be patronizing with me. They can have their own opinions, I can't change that, but if they want to deal with me they will treat me with respect. Any woman who doesn't do the same has something wrong with HER OWN beliefs, and all of the feminism or anti-feminism outside of her really doesn't make any difference.
Free your mind and the rest will follow...

Yeah, people who believe in equal rights for women need to come up with another name, because "feminist" has pretty much been ruined by right to mean "man-hater."

You have to remember that the religious right believes that any woman who wants equal rights and opportunities for women is a man hater, because some invisible sky ghost told them so (presumably speaking from a burning cross rather than a burning bush, given the religious right's origins as the pro-KKK wings of real churches). Because any woman who would deny a man his rightful place as the massah of the family, who would dare step out of the role of adoring slave for her massah, must hate men. Just as any Negro who dares step out of the role of adoring slave for white men must hate whites (just talk to some of these reich wingers and turn the talk to race and you'll see what I mean).
So it doesn't matter if you as a woman who desires equal rights and opportunities call yourself a "feminist" or an "xyzzy", these reich wingers are still gonna prefix it with "man-hating". That's just how they, as firm advocates of slavery since the birth of their faiths, "think".

By the way, Bad Tux, I've pretty much lost a friend to that whole Reich Wingers issue because she married into a family that supports the Eagle Forum. When I get near them I break out in hives so I just had to give up.
