Badtux the Snarky Penguin

In a time of chimpanzees, I was a penguin.

A moderate for the Supreme Court?

Seems that Dear Leader decided that, with his Brain under attack, it wasn't worth it trying to get Judge Roy Moore onto the Supreme Court. So he nominated someone who is generally respected.

Amazing... Dear Leader was given a chance to screw it up, and didn't. Is that a first for Dubya?

But then, this isn't the first time that a Republican President, under attack in the media and in Congress, decided to throw a few bones to the hounds. You *do* know that all of the welfare programs that Jimmy Carter was accused of creating were actually at least proposed, if not signed into law by.... Richard Nixon, right?

Comments:

John Roberts may be generally respected, but he's also generally a cookie-cutter type of Catholic conservative. By which I mean he has no place on the High Court.

And his nomination comes just days after he agreed with Bush & Co. that military tribunals, with their virtually non-existent standards of due process, are a fair way to deal with suspected terrorists -- and if other bothersome standards of human decency come into play, screw 'em. W're trying to win a war on terror here, we don't have time to fart around with consistency in our own behavior...

Oh, there's much much more coming out about Roberts that we're all going to hate, and not just that he's a party hack. There's a whole thing about the Interstate Commerce Act. That Act is the basis for much environmental law. If that goes down, the environmental law based on it goes down.
